Description of the attraction

The Troll Stone is also called "The Devil's Stone". A cross is depicted on the west side of the stone. On one side there are three "claw marks" after big fingers.

Several legends are associated with the stone. One legend says that the Troll Stone was thrown down from Tjeldbergtinden by the Devil. He wanted to destroy the first church built in Vågar. In another legend, it was a troll who threw the stone. The troll missed the church, but he held the stone so hard that the marks from three of his fingers are still visible on the stone. A third legend tells that the Devil was released in Vågar in 1850. But the priest Christian Bull managed to get him back underground, with the help of verses and the Black Book, despite the fact that the Devil held on so hard to the Devil's Stone that the marks from the claws can still be seen on the stone.

Tjeldbergtinden is the mountain you see right behind Lofoten Cathedral when you stand by the Troll Stone and look towards the cathedral.
